Unfair to Goliath?

2:00 PM - 3:00 PMFinchley Reform Synagogue & Zoomwith Rabbi Professor Jonathan Magonet
The iconic image of little David defeating the giant Goliath makes for a great children’s story. It crops up in myriad situations of conflict, whether to cheer on the potential victim or satirise the arrogance of the powerful perpetrator. And yet the actual Bible story contains a few puzzles and unexpected twists that suggest that all is not so simple.
We will look at the text in detail and see how it appears through the eyes of grownups. Rabbi Professor Jonathan Magonet is emeritus professor of Bible at Leo Baeck College and a long-time member of FRS. His most recent book: ‘’How did Moses know he was a Hebrew? Reading Bible Stories from within’, takes a fresh look at a number of familiar Bible tales.
This is a multi-access event.
