Jewish Joint Burial Society

The Jewish Joint Burial Society (“JJBS”) continues to fulfil a vital function for FRS and the communities of its 42 member synagogues, by providing essential services and facilities in the event of the death of a member. JJBS administers funerals for FRS members at its Western Cemetery in Cheshunt, where families can choose a traditional funeral, or a burial in the lawn or woodland areas.

Unfortunately, the last year has seen an increased number of funerals during the pandemic, with Covid-enforced limitations on attendance by bereaved families and postponements of stonesettings. The “Ohel” prayer room is now back in use, and it is hoped that bereaved families will now be able to mourn their loved ones with dignity and calm.

I was elected as a JJBS Trustee in June 2021 and I am now Chair of the Grants Committee which considers annual applications from a wide range of charitable and community organisations.
